Anonymous whispered,

i want to start a rph. any advice or help you can offer would be really nice

akarshnarps-deactivated20140719:

Of course, sweetie!

There are a few things to know about RPHs:

  • Kindness: You're to be just like an admin. I understand that you're the one giving the help and I understand that you're the one doing the work, but you still need to be nice because no one is going to come to your blog if you aren't. It doesn't matter how rude the anon is; you need to be nice, or firm. If you receive hate, either delete it, don't post it, or call out the anon so long as you aren't doing it often.
  • Activity: Really, if you aren't going to be active, there is no point to start a RPH. No ones going to find your blog useful or helpful.
  • Theme: Listen to me when I say that you are not required to have the themes that most RPHs have. I have quite a simple theme and it's gotten me this far. Just find a theme that is easy to use! Make sure your color scheme, graphics, and other theme-related items are easy on the eyes; no one wants to squint through hotpink and tiny letters.
  • Organization: Make sure that you have an organized navigation. It's going to be very useful for you to set tags you will remember. I recommend splitting up the navi into "My Things" (for everything you personally do), "Resources" (whatever you reblog), and "Extra" (personal posts, about me posts, random reblogs, selfies, rp recs, rp you're in, rps you admin). Some people also link their WID, Guidelines, and TDL in the "Extra" but that makes me mad, so I tend to keep it completely separate at the top.
  • WID: Let your followers know exactly what services you offer. Make sure it's easy to find. I get frustrated when I need to search through 50 links to find the WID, because by that time, I forgot what I needed.
  • Guidelines: Have rules they need to follow. Liten to me when I say that it is your blog, your time, and your effort. If you're going to use the Internet for hours to help other people, the least they could do is respect you and treat you the way you want to and should be treated. There is nothing wrong in having rules and enforcing them. Just don't bitch about it if someone breaks any rules; but always say so firmly if they did.
  • TDL: It really is nice for people to know what you are doing and what you need to be doing. Having a TDL would be very helpful to not only keep you on task, but also to others who won't waste your time or theirs if you won't be able to take on the task. Keep it as updated as possible.
  • Do: Tag your posts for organization. Have a tag to track. Make big posts/follow forevers for 100s. Have goals. Post often. Makeyour blog look pretty; pretty does not mean overdone! Make personal posts every once in a while. Reblog lots of resources. Be accurate; don't give anyone false information. Admit to not knowing something; you're human you don't need an answer for every question.
  • Don't: Overtag posts. Beg for attention. Make too many personal posts. Advertise more than a couple times a day for your next hundred (don't advertise at all till you're like 30 away). Reblog too many useless posts. Ignore people. Act snobby because you have more followers than someone else. Send someone hate. Send yourself hate. Use autoplay for music players
  • Admin Tips: You can refer to this and this for more tips. They're really for RPG admins, but some can apply to RPH admins!

I'm not sure if this is enough for you; I really tried to say what's the most important, but if you need more help, please feel free to ask! I hope this helps, nonnie!
